Work Package 5 - Policy Interventions

To move from ‘cheap and disposable’ to 'empowered and active' agents, fish workers need to be able to demand their rights as specified in labour laws and immigration policy, or the lack thereof; and they need to be able to advocate for changes in these laws where these laws restrict their rights.

We aim to find
1) synergy of all work packages, and
2) policy and regulation analysis to target national and regional policy interventions.

We aim to make trash fish supply chains more visible, and through this, work with stakeholders at port to consider how trash fish can be better regulated, particularly in terms of sustainability, but also to make legible the working conditions of workers on boats and at port working in trash fish supply chains.

Methods: port-based multi-stakeholder workshops; project outreach products (podcasts, blogposts, policy briefs).
